Who is “The Figurehead”?

Chad Nikazy is a 36 year old father of three (Isabella Hope – 7 years old, Max Edward and Katherine “Kate” Ann – 2.5 year old twins). He has been married to his wife, Karen Ann, for 12 years. They reside in Spring Hill, TN.

Chad is the son of Lt. Colonel Eddie and Peggy Nikazy, so he spent time living in many places, before finally landing in Hendersonville, TN in 1985. He graduated from HHS and subsequently Middle Tennessee State University in 1998 with a degree in English.

He is currently the Director of Counselor Training Promotion for Dave Ramsey’s company (since 2004).

Chad is a formerly certified AFAA (aerobics and fitness association of America)certified personal trainer as well as a USA Triathlon Level 1 certified coach. He was Centennial High School head wrestling coach, Hendersonville High School assistant wrestling coach, and Williamson County Wrestling Club assistant coach.

Chad represented the USA at the 2005 ITU Age Group Triathlon World Championships in Honolulu. He was a 2x Tennessee state finalist at 112lbs, capturing the the state title in 1993. He recently completed 3 Ironman 70.3 (half ironman) races in an 11-month span (Austin, Orlando, and Boulder).

He is a huge sports fan – especially professional cycling and baseball.

What’s up with this blog?

This blog chronicles his adventures in triathlons, running, cycling, fatherhood, musical exploration, and general every day life.

Why is it called “The Figurehead”?

Chad’s favorite band through the years has been the Cure (along with Jimmy Buffett and Jack Johnson). “The Figurhead” is the name of one of his favorite Cure songs.
