Gatti vs. Ward

January 29, 2008 · 4 Comments

I just read today that a major motion picture will be filmed about the life of “Irish” Micky Ward. His fight triology with Arturo Gatti is, in my mind, the greatest fighting rivalry of all time. The film will star Mark Wahlberg (my 2nd fave actor) as Micky Ward and Brad Pitt (another favorite) as Micky’s older brother.

In honor of Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti check out the HBO produced prefight hype that aired before Gatti-Ward III. Unbelievable fights!

Workout tunes

January 25, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m training folks again. I have a group of guys that are killing it three mornings a week boxing, wrestling, lifting, and doing some extreme conditioning. Beyond the fun of training them I’m also enjoying making new workout mixes for each workout.

Here are a few of highlights from today’s mix (Enjoy Scoali and Hooligan):

Dropkick Murphys

Steet Dogs

Visualization

Between now and June 7th I’ll tackle other obstacles, namely the 3 State 3 Mountain Challenge including Lookout Mountain in May. In June I plan to go back to my birthplace of Elizabethton, TN. There are real mountains there; the kind I dream about at night and visualize myself attacking in daydreams. While I’m here in Middle TN daydreaming about Roan Mountain it probably looks like this - and it’s waiting for me:

Yep, those are clouds to the left:

The Roan Groan is a 30 mile race with a finishing 8 mile climb at an average grade of 7% to a mountain top finish at Carvers Gap at 5512 feet. The highest I’ve ever been on a bike is Wayah Gap in NC at 4080 feet.

Cold Grey Skies and Bruises

January 17, 2008 · No Comments

The weather outside and the fresh bruises on my face remind me of how it felt to be a teenager. Here’s the soundtrack to match the feeling. The first two concert films I ever saw:

The Cure - In Orange performing a sped up version of “Charlotte Sometimes”.

U2 - Live at Red Rocks performing “October” and “New Years Day”.

I’m not sure where or when this photograph was taken, but man, I wish I had been there. Jimmy and Jack - together!

Please check out the blog of my long time best friend (more than 20 years now!). It’s titled BALAD REDUX. He is currently in the midst of his second deployment in Iraq. He and I went through alot of stuff together, but nothing like what he’s going through now. I’m very proud of him.
